6th Corozal Methodist Scouts hold a campfire

Scouts from the 6th Corozal Methodist Scout Group held a campfire on Saturday, November 25, 2023

Campfires are an open-air activity popular within Scouting, and Scout Groups use them regularly as a focal point for social activities.

Scouts sit around the campfire and tell stories, sing along, shout out chants, and play-act skits as part of the entertainment program.

Campfires end with the roasting of marshmallows and sausages over the fire ambers.

It’s a fun event enjoyed by non-scouts as well

On May 27, 2017, Dr. Rene Villanueva was approached by then Chairman of the Belize Scout Foundation (BSF), Jorge Julian Castillo, and then Executive Director for The Scout Association of Belize Hilberto B. Riverol to consider taking over the chairmanship of the BSF.

Dr. Villanueva accepted the challenge without hesitation and on November 25, 2017, he was officially welcomed as the new Chairman of the BSF.

On November 25, 2020, Dr. Villanueva completed his three-year term and was reelected for another term of three years.

Today November 25, 2022, marks the second year of his second term in office, and with one more year to serve as Chairman, he has a big challenge in identifying another project now that the Sir Colville N. Young Building has been completed and gifted to the Scout Association.

We congratulate Dr. Villanueva and the Directors of the Foundation for their passion and commitment to serving the young people of Belize through Scouting.

As Sir Colville always says “Carry on Smartly”
