Historical Facts in Scouting

Did you know?…

In July of 1990, a delegation of Scouts from Belize traveled to Houston Texas to participate in the International Scout Encampment 1990 sponsored by the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  The delegation of five members was made up of Mary Pennell, Sherman Barrow, Lombardo Riverol, and Marlon McNab from 1st Belize Holy Redeemer Scout Group and Hilberto Riverol Jr. from 8th Belize St. Joseph Scout Unit. During that period Hilberto B. Riverol was serving as the National Scout Executive and attended the Encampment as a guest.   The Encampment was held at Camp Strake near Houston, Texas, and had the participation of nine other countries.

We thank the Baekseok University and the government of South Korea 🇰🇷. For hosting us & showing much kindness to our Belize 🇧🇿 contingent.  They surely have made our Jamboree a memorable one.

We can’t thank them enough. Especially hosting us under such circumstances and short notice.  God is good and may He bless both South Korea 🇰🇷 & Belize 🇧🇿. See you all soon.

Simon Hang-Bock Rhee Dear Scouts,

Simon Hang-Bock Rhee
Dear Scouts,

As the jamboree draws to a close this evening, I would like to take this opportunity to thank WOSM and the Heads of Contingents and their respective Contingents for their support and participation.

My special thanks to our steadfast ISTs, incredible JMTs/ JPTs and all personnel at our five Hubs and 17 Subcamps for their awesome dedication, that went far beyond the call of duty.

I also would like to highlight our sincerest appreciation to our supporters at all levels, from Non Government Organisations, our partners to our many friends at the local, provincial, and central Government.

A special Scout’s salute to our ever supportive sponsors who have stepped in, time and time again, with their contributions and personal involvement.

And most importantly to all the young people who came from all corners of our World, in friendship, in peace, sharing a common vision to create a better world.

The 25th World Scout Jamboree is coming to an end. We began in sunny SaeManGeum and continue to celebrate adventures here in Seoul, with the next jamboree milestone Poland 2027 in mind.

You would have noticed by now that our jamboree is like no other

We have weathered a typhoon and overcame it.
We have been resilient and united in facing challenges.
We saw opportunities to improve, not problems.
We saw the Scouting spirit, gentle and ever helpful.

We felt. We saw. We tasted. We shared. We helped. We laughed. We cried. We hugged. We boogied. We danced. We walked. We slept. We snored. We will remember making new friends, while waiting at bus queues. We will remember Swedish meatballs and Mexican mango Tabasco slushies and Italian pizzas. We will remember the spectacular concert this evening and the colours of our Scouting world. We will remember the sun, the rain and much more, we will remember each other.

We have experienced many challenges during the jamboree. Limits were stretched and we grew. We coped, with a smile, under all difficulties, and carried on. The optimism was infectious. This jamboree will be remembered for all those and more.

This chapter is now at its last page as we bid adieu to each other. And with that, the 25th World Scout Jamboree 2023 SaeManGeum, Korea closes tonight and I look forward to meeting all of you if the opportunity arises.

My sincere apologies ……

Simon RHEE

The Belize Contingent continues to enjoy the remainder of their stay in Korea. As they were able to take part in the Boryeong Mud Festival in the town of Boryeong. The festival which usually takes place in July was reopened back specifically for WSJ participants.
