Scouts hold opening ceremony for their Join in Jamboree

The Scout Association of Belize (SAB is celebrating the 24th World Scout Jamboree being held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve Mount Hope, West Virginia United States of America, with a “Join in Jamboree Camp being held at Camp Oakley in Burrell Boom, Belize District.

The World Scout Jamboree brings together the World’s young people to promote peace, mutual understanding, leadership, and life skills.

In connection with the Join in Jamboree, an opening ceremony was held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, in which the Chairman of the Belize Scout Foundation Dr. Rene Villanueva was the guest speaker.  In his address to the Scouts and leaders Dr. Villanueva spoke about setting goals and carrying them through, he chooses this topic because the symbolic framework for the Join in Jamboree is the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that were adopted in September 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Sustainable Goals are a call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure peace and prosperity everywhere.

As part of the program for the opening ceremony of the Join in Jamboree, Dr. Villanueva was presented with the Join in Jamboree neck kerchief also called a scarf.
